From Me to You...

My hubby, was still my boyfriend when we first stepped onto the shores of Thailand, nearly 30 years ago. The memories of this place are woven into the very fabric of our relationship. We were young, we were broke and on a quest to visit the ancient kingdoms; Ayutthaya and Sukhothai into Si Satchanalai where temples ruins spread over acres and acres of land. I still swear that the ruins whispered to me in the silence and the Mahathat in Sukhothai brought me to tears for a reason. It was also a trip that was full of adventure; we made our way to the Golden Triangle (which may as well be called the Opioid Triangle) - an area of 200,000 kms between Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. Over glasses of red, you may just hear all about our reckless selves driving through bandit country in a Suzuki jeep at 9:00 PM, desperately trying to make it to the village of Fang - safely. Which we thankfully did. It was at the end of this trip that I knew for certain, that this was the man for me. How I reached that conclusion is story for another time, best shared over some excellent red!

We travel differently now. This year we went back to our old haunts and explored regions and peninsulas we hadn't been to. We had an opportunity to experience some of the most exclusive beachside resorts and those on the Andaman sea. It was a spectacular two weeks.

There is a reason our first WATJ small group tour to Asia in 14 years is to Thailand. It is a place like no other. Not just because of the exquisite resorts that we will be staying at, the ancient temples and ruins we will tour, or the elephants we will spend time with nor the spectacular cuisine we will enjoy. There's more.....it's in the smile of the people; a kindness, a warmth and a caring that I had forgotten. I had forgotten just how much warmth and contentment one could express in a single smile. And what it feels like to be on the receiving end of one.

MARCH 17 | BANGKOK

VIP Meet & Greet: Upon your arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted at the airport with a personalized sign bearing your name at the exit airbridge. From there, you'll be escorted directly to the Fast Track Immigration Counter to breeze through formalities. After smoothly completing immigration, baggage claim, and customs, our friendly tour guide will be waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Bangkok—known locally as Krungthep, the “City of Angels”—has been Thailand’s vibrant capital since 1782.

It’s a captivating fusion of soaring urban skyscrapers, lively local culture, stunning historic architecture, and so much more. MARCH 18 | BANGKOK

Our guide will warmly meet you in the hotel lobby to kick off our day of discovery in Bangkok.

From the flower market we head to the iconic Wat Arun, or Temple of the Dawn, perched gracefully on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. This stunning temple honors Aruna, the Hindu god personifying the radiance of sunrise. We'll also have an exclusive opportunity to participate in a serene Monk Blessing Ceremony, a meaningful experience to bless your journey.

Afterwards, step aboard a traditional solar-powered boat for a peaceful cruise through the canals of the Thonburi district. Along the way, pass by Baan Silapin, a hidden gem dedicated to preserving authentic Thai culture, offering a glimpse into Bangkok’s past before the rise of modern skyscrapers. Our boat ride concludes at a charming hidden gem restaurant nestled amid Bangkok’s oldest orchards and cultural landmarks, where we will enjoy a unique lunch of organic, locally-sourced cuisine in a lush, tranquil setting.

After a leisurely lunch, we will then be driven back to your hotel to relax and refresh. Afternoon at our leisure.

For dinner, we prepare to indulge our palate at one of the most iconic restaurants for traditional Thai cuisine. Discover the rich flavors and timeless elegance of authentic Thai cuisine in an unforgettable dining experience. The restaurant is in a a beautiful historical building and the ambience perfectly complements the culinary excellence on our plate. Dinner will be served family style.

MARCH 19 | AYUTTHAYA

After breakfast, our guide will meet you at the hotel lobby as you will venture away from Bangkok to the ancient capital of Siam, straight to the fabulous city of Ayutthaya. This ancient capital was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.

In Ayutthaya visit the most important of the ruined temples in Ayutthaya historical park. Ayutthaya is now an archaeological ruin, characterized by the remains of tall stupas and Buddhist monasteries.

Explore the Historical Park and enjoy an in-depth tour of the most famous temples. Wat Chaiwatthanaram one of Ayutthaya’s most photographed sites. Wat Phra Sri Sanphet The prototype of the famous Grand Palace in Bangkok. Wat Phra Mongkol Borphit An active temple compound that is visited by many people throughout the day to worship the huge Buddha image. Wat Mahathat is famous for the Buddha Head in the banyan tree. After lunch, we will be driven to the hotel and check in.

MARCH 20 | BANGKOK - Free Day

Today is at our leisure —whether you choose to explore the vibrant streets of Bangkok on your own or unwind by the beach or enjoy the fantastic spa facilities at the hotel. The spa at the hotel is spectacular!

In the evening, we’ve reserved a special dinner at a standout One-Michelin star modern Thai restaurant known for blending traditional flavors with a contemporary edge. This is Dev's favorite restaurant in Bangkok with masterful service and a flavor explosion! À la carte and tasting menus are available, with their dishes – from street food starter to dessert – proving creative and original, yet respectful of traditional Thai flavors.

MARCH 21 | BANGKOK to CHIANG MAI - Air Travel Included.

After breakfast and check-out, we’ll be whisked away to the airport for our flight to enchanting Chiang Mai.

Located on the Ping River, Chiang Mai was once the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, which flourished in northern Thailand between the 12th - 15th centuries. The city is the second largest city in Thailand, and the cultural capital of the north.

Upon arrival, we are greeted at the airport by our guide and we head for lunch at a local gem of a restaurant.

Then it's off to the resort for some rest and relaxation. Afternoon at our leisure.

Chiang Mai is one of Asia’s best cities to explore on foot, with a bustling street food scene. In the evening, we head to one of the most popular Night Markets in Chiang Mai. The open-air market is famous for is unique handicrafts, silver ware, delicious local food and traditional performances.

At the end of the market visit, we enjoy a traditional dinner Khao Soi, northern style noodle curry which somewhat similar to that of yellow curry but of a thinner consistency. It is popular as a street dish eaten by Thai people in northern Thailand, though not frequently served in Thai restaurants abroad.

MARCH 22 | CHIANG MAI - Elephant Conservation

We’ll be picked up from our accommodation and drive about 50 minutes through scenic farmland to the Elephant Sanctuary. There, we’ll enjoy hands-on healthcare activities with pregnant elephant mothers and their babies. Guided by experts, we’ll learn how to approach, feed, and lead our elephant to a nearby river for bathing and brushing—great for healthy skin care.

Since we’re protecting our mothers and calves, bareback riding isn’t part of our day. Instead, we’ll walk our elephants through the lush Trail of 100 River Crossings valley, supporting their daily exercise, natural feeding, and fresh mountain water drinking.

At the waterfall, we can relax while our elephants rest and feed as lunch is prepared. Afterward, we’ll walk back together to Patara Elephant Conservation.

Afternoon on our our back at the resort at our leisure until dinner-time.

In the evening, dinner’s at a stylish spot on the edge of the old city known for Northern Thai classics with a modern twist. They use premium ingredients like New Zealand beef and fresh herbs grown nearby. We can try the Chiang Mai platter to sample a variety of dishes, paired with their creative cocktails. If we want to keep the night going, the House Lounge next door is a great spot.

MARCH 23 | CHIANG MAI - Free Day

We have a leisurely day to explore Chiang Mai at our own pace—whether wandering the vibrant old city or enjoying a spa day or pool day!

In the evening for dinner, we head to a new gem in the heart of old Chiang Mai. Run by a local chef who champions the slow food philosophy, this restaurant uses ingredients sourced from across the country. The fried rice with sweet shrimp is perfectly cooked with sweet shrimp paste and flavorful condiments like fresh chili, shallots, and mango. The spicy beef turmeric curry stands out with its intense blend of herbs and spices, and if we’re up for a real kick, they can add fresh Thai chilies. The architecture of this restaurant is especially note worthy since it is in a traditional Thai tea house.

MARCH 24 | CHIANG MAI to KOH YAO YAI via Phuket | Air Travel Included.

After breakfast and check-out, we’ll be driven to the airport to board our flight to Phuket. Upon arrival in Phuket, our guide will greet us and transfer us to the pier, where we’ll hop on a speedboat to our resort on the island of Koh Yao Yai. Once we arrive at the hotel, the staff will warmly welcome us for check-in.

Koh Yao Yai remains a beautiful, largely unspoiled island, cherished for its natural charm on the Andaman Sea. It’s considered one of the last islands in the region to resist overdevelopment, with fishing and rubber planting as its main industries, alongside some rice farming and fruit, palm, and coconut plantations. This island tends to attract serene travelers—whether couples on a romantic escape or families looking for a quiet beach holiday.

We enjoy lunch and the rest of the day on our own at the resort.

In the evening, we enjoy a special welcome dinner featuring Thai cuisine with a modern twist.

MARCH 25 | KOH YAO YAI - Phang Nga Bay by Luxury Catamaran

After breakfast, we’ll depart to the pier to board our private luxury catamaran for a magnificent one-day adventure to Phang Nga Bay. We’ll set sail in comfort, gliding through stunning turquoise waters framed by towering limestone cliffs.

We’ll paddle canoes through hidden caves and mangrove forests at Hong Island, then visit the iconic James Bond Island, famous for its scene in The Man with the Golden Gun. We’ll explore islands renowned for incredible caves, stalactites, and serene lagoons.

There’s plenty of chance to unwind by swimming in the pristine sea! This boat ride blends breathtaking natural beauty, exciting activities, and cultural exploration—all from the comfort of our luxe catamaran.

We’ll enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch on board before we sail back to the resort.

While it offers a vibrant urban beach life, Phuket also has secluded spots where unique, untouched experiences await.

Upon arrival in Phuket, our guide will greet us and transfer us to a charming spot, perfect for savoring classic, traditional Thai cuisine. With elegant décor and refined table settings, the restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring fresh, high-quality local and imported ingredients. Highlights include Crab Meat Curry, Pork Belly Stew, and Deep-Fried Fish in Turmeric.

After our meal, we’ll be transferred to the hotel for check-in and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

We begin our day at the iconic Governor’s Mansion in Phuket Town, greeted with refreshing drinks at the Bar. Our first stop is a bustling local morning market, where our chef guides us through a colorful array of Thai fruits, vegetables, and spices, sharing insights into their traditional uses. Back at the Cooking School, a fresh Thai herbal drink and cool towel await us before we dive into the theory and practical class, learning the secrets behind crafting a perfect 4-course Thai meal.

ELEPHANT CONSERVATION

Emphasis of care for pregnant elephants and mothers.

This “Elephant Day Care” is the ideal trip to learn about, and to care for our elephants. Learn all about the farm's conservation philosophy. We will take part of the daily healthcare routine which includes health inspection, feeding, walking with the elephants for exercise and also to the water for drinking and bathing.

We will be able to observe them interacting among their families in natural environments. This trip will not include riding any elephants.

ANCIENT KINGDOM OF AYUTTHAYA

Founded in 1350, Ayutthaya was the flourishing capital of the Kingdom of Siam—what we now know as Thailand—for over four centuries.
