August 27 | Sunday Luncheon

I'm truly excited about this luncheon! It's the last one before our Weave A Thousand Journeys culinary group at sets off on our highly anticipated, gastronomic journey to Puglia, the heel of Italy.

The irony isn't lost on me. Here I am just before departure to Puglia, organizing a supper club event at a restaurant, by an Owner-Chef who is renowned for his Italian restaurant, Masseria (which is a quintessential Pugliese farmhouse) except - we'll be dining at his French restaurant!

I have my reasons. Mainly because the overall menu inspiration stems from legendary recipe book Le Répertoire de La Cuisine by none other than Auguste Escoffier and is considered the Bible of French gastronomy.

And secondly - childhood nostalgia. Chalk it up to two words - lobster thermidor. The first time I read the Le Clou menu, I nearly fell out of the chair when I saw they served Lobster thermidor. Do you know how rare that is? And the fact that it's Escoffier's recipe means everything! This dish brings such great childhood memories for me; birthdays, anniversaries and every other celebratory occasion. Needless to say, if it's on the menu, I can never pass it up.

If you've never had it, you're in for a treat! Think, lobster.  eggs yolks, gruyere cheese in a creamy and rich thermidor sauce in lobster shell under a broiler. So good! The menu will serve the classics; Fruits de mer towers with oishii shrimp, moules escabeche, butter lettuce salads with shallot vinaigrette, pâté with port braised prunes & steak frites, grilled sea bass and more.

We'll have the pleasure of dining in the private salon at Le Clou (pic above) which is très chic!

We'll be serving Cremant and whites from Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. After the summer spent there last year, for some of us it will be like meeting old friends again.

LE CLOU is featured in Forbes & Washington Post's, Tom Sietsema's 6 favorite places to eat for 2023.

Hope you'll join our table!

warmly,

Devaki

Here's what past guests had to say"

"It's always a great experience when you celebrate a meal with the Weave A Thousand Flavors Supper Club. The Lapis restaurant had great tasting authentic Afghani food served by a friendly and professional staff in a controlled yet bustling environment. The memories that I reflect on, as I think of our first outing of 2019, are the ones that celebrate the gastronaut members that make up the supper club. I enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, the offering of friendship and the sharing of a meal as we celebrate the experience of breaking bread together. It just feels like home!!"

"What a great way to enjoy some fantastic food at a new place and meet with old friends and new! Devaki always picks such wonderful places for a true DC dining experience. Can’t wait for the next outing!"

"Every Supper Club experience is unique in delicious cuisine and ambiance, and there's no better group with which to share them!"

"Maydan was spectacular. Tucked away off Florida Ave, it is a hidden gem. The many courses of sumptuous food were so flavorful and perfectly prepared...from the assortment of appetizers to the lamb that was cooked for 72 hours. I particularly loved the squid! The company was fabulous and I met several new  friends I hope to stay in touch with. All in All, worth every penny! Can’t wait to do it again!"
